'Adopt' a Mobile Library or School

Combine literacy with service learning by adopting one of the following projects. Children in many countries would love to have better access to books.

Their books might be brought by volunteer librarians who use camels, donkeys, boat, even elephants to access the remote areas where people live. But sometimes, after walking for days to get there, all the librarian has to offer are some old, unattractive books. If you would like to send books to countries where they are needed, you can use the following information:

• Be sure to only send new or almost new books. A good guideline is to select books that you would love to receive yourself!
• Postage is expensive. You can mail books by surface mail (boat) which is slower but cheaper. You might even find a local business, or your school, to sponsor the cost of shipping the books.
• Package books in a box or wrap in sturdy brown paper. Use heavyduty plastic tape on the corner.
