Planning An Author Visit
Please use this information to plan and schedule
my visit to your school. I will happily discuss any proposed plans!
- I can do half hour readings for K-1. This
is usually long enough for this age level. In the half hour I tell
stories, read from my picture books, using colour overheads, perform
poetry and encourage the kids to be readers and writers.
- For Grade 2 - 7 (as well as all other
ages) I do a 60 minute slideshow presentation. During this time
I talk about the writing process and explain how books are made,
from first idea to finished book; about the relationship between
author, publisher and illustrator. I use an LCD projector and laptop.
The slides show both writing and art work in progress. I also bring
uncut pages and color separations to explain the printing process.
This talk is fun and exciting.
- In a full day in one school, I can do
a combination of the above up to 4 presentations, i.e. one half
hour reading for K-1 followed by a slideshow for Grades 2/3 in the
morning. Then two slideshows in the afternoon for Grades 4/5 and
6/7.
- Group sizes can vary. In a gym, I
don’t mind talking to up to 80 students. But group sizes of
up to 60 students are preferred. For Primary readings, usually two
or three classes combined are fine. Please don’t combine K-1 with older students.
- Please feel free to invite homeschoolers,
parents and public. Inviting a local newspaper to an author
visit can also bring your school positive promotion.
Once the date of our school visit has been confirmed
I will send you a sheet with details of equipment needed and other
suggestions to make the visit as memorable as possible.
