What Other Schools Have Done...
A varied of topics is available for you to choose from. I adapt my presentations to the different age levels and work with students in Kindergarten through Grade 7 as well as with teachers and parents:
HOW BOOKS ARE MADE:
This presentation shows where to get ideas; how to use those ideas
in stories; how stories and written and rewritten; how manuscripts
are submitted; how illustrators are assigned and how a book is actually
printed! This presentation includes reading with overheads and a
slideshow on the making of A Mountain Alphabet and other
books.
- Suitable for: Grades 2 - 12; elementary teachers, art teachers, and those interested in promoting reading and writing.
- Gym or library setting, variable group size.
- Requirements: Carousel projector and overhead, screen and dark room.
- Length: 70 minutes
AUTHOR READINGS for Primary Grades:
This entails readings from Margriet's own books.
- Suitable for K - 2
- Classroom, gym or library setting, group size variable.
- Length: 30 minutes.
THE POWER OF POETRY:
This hands-on writing workshop covers generating ideas, exciting writing
exercises and writing a first draft of a poem.
- Suitable for: Grades 3 - 7
- Classroom setting, up to 30 students.
- Length: 2 hours

WRITE IN THE CLASSROOM:
This hands-on writing workshop covers the fiction writing process
from generating ideas, planning a story to writing a first draft
in fiction. Students will produce a list of ideas to use for writing
projects.
- Grades 3 - 7
- Classroom setting, up to 30 students
- Length: half a day to a full day.

Writing a SCHOOL NEWSPAPER:
Non-fiction workshop. Students design, research, write and desktop publish their own school's newspaper complete with classifieds, horoscopes, news etc.
