What Other Schools Have Done...

Our Version of Wild Babies by Margriet Ruurs

A varied of topics is available for you to choose from. I adapt my presentations to the different age levels and work with students in Kindergarten through Grade 7 as well as with teachers and parents:

HOW BOOKS ARE MADE:
This presentation shows where to get ideas; how to use those ideas in stories; how stories and written and rewritten; how manuscripts are submitted; how illustrators are assigned and how a book is actually printed! This presentation includes reading with overheads and a slideshow on the making of A Mountain Alphabet and other books.

AUTHOR READINGS for Primary Grades:
This entails readings from Margriet's own books.

THE POWER OF POETRY:
This hands-on writing workshop covers generating ideas, exciting writing exercises and writing a first draft of a poem.

"Thank you for coming! Your books are radical!"
(student Grade 5)

WRITE IN THE CLASSROOM:

This hands-on writing workshop covers the fiction writing process from generating ideas, planning a story to writing a first draft in fiction. Students will produce a list of ideas to use for writing projects.

"Thank you so much for your enthusiasm and for
re-kindling the love of writing and getting my students to love writing! "
